As summer comes to an end, we recognize that many of those in a career transition may have "played hooky" over the summer and reduced their job search efforts. However, reality still exists. In recent days we have been asked to handle more downsizings. If you ask those people who have received outplacement services, I believe you will hear what a difference it makes. Of course, the selection of the outplacement firm greatly impacts one's efforts. Is outplacement the same as it used to be? If not, how is it different? What are the differences between outplacement firms? Most say they all do the same thing, but ask the job search candidates for the real scoop. You should find this issue of our newsletter to be very informative. With the business world still enduring stressful times, you should be like the Boy Scouts and "Be Prepared."

Good Afternoon!

Boy, the day has really gotten away from me. At least it was a Monday that flew by rather than dragged on and on, right?! It’s a scorcher out there, so try to stay cool! It should be cooling off here soon enough!

This week the Career Transition Workshop has been rescheduled for next month, and so has the Negotiating the Job Offer seminar. I will be sending all the information regarding our next set of seminars and workshops in September’s Career Update later this month.

Also, the Job Search Support Group is cancelled for the next two weeks and will resume as normal on the 31st. In September, we will be starting a five part series about Restarting Your Job Search. It will be held every Tuesday morning from 9:00 to 11:00am. Please RSVP if you would like to attend.

Good Afternoon and Happy Tuesday!

I am going to assume that you had a fantastic weekend. Weather was nice and cool, but I saw this morning that we need to prepare for more heat as the week progresses. Did you get a chance to go to The Bite of Portland? I didn’t, but I heard that it was great.


This week we have a seminar on Making Age an Advantage. It will be facilitate by Jean Erickson Walker on Thursday the 12th from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. Since age can be one of the most powerful advantages in your mid-life job search, learn how to change age perceptions, improve first impressions, learn how to compete against younger candidates, and more.

Next week is the Career Transition Workshops held by Ron Ennis. They will be held on Tuesday, August 17th and Thursday August 19th from 8:30 – 4:30pm. If you haven’t completed the CTW yet, please let me know and we’ll get you on the schedule to attend.
